meet the founder

Bradford Goshorn, Founder and Head Forester

My love for trees took root as a child. Growing up in California, scrambling up tree trunks was a favorite past time, but my mom wouldn’t indulge my cries for help when the climb down seemed too daunting. The rule was simple: if you can climb up, you can also climb down. Funny, this simple rule has evolved into an important life lesson, shaping me in many ways.

My passion for trees followed me to Cabrillo College, where I studied horticulture with an emphasis in arboriculture. Out of college in 2008, I emerged as a certified arborist, armed with a degree and a groundswell of passion to make a change.

Over the next six years, I applied this passion across an apprenticeship and several positions at tree companies across California and Colorado.

During that period, I also ventured into forestry work and restoration. I spent my summers in Colorado’s crisp air with Native Ecology, immersing myself in the spectacular world of forest conservation.

2013 marked a turning point when I joined the Forest Service on the Smith River Hotshots. As a primary sawyer, my skills expanded beyond tree conservation to include fire behavior, firefighting tactics, and prescription burns.

As part of the restoration phase, I learned about deploying a fire at the right time to rejuvenate the forest floor, a process requiring finesse and careful knowledge.

Nevertheless, after three enriching years in firefighting, the entrepreneurial bug bit, and I opened my tree service company in 2016. Implementing years of built-up expertise, Bear Creek now caters to all forms of tree care and forest restoration services.

Over the years, I’ve also been involved in a number of forest defense initiatives and organizations, including Earth First, Save the Oaks and Save the Redwoods.

I’m glad you’ve found us, and look forward to serving you and your trees.
